A BIT OF HISTORY

Born in America's great industrial age, this proud brick mill complex was built on the edge of a powerful river and was the birthplace of a great textile company. The year was 1832 and the place is Franklin NH. The man is one J.P. Stevens who selected this site to build his very first textile plant. Located in the middle of the state, in the middle of the region, with water, rail and road access, it was the perfect location to launch a new age in the industrial evolution.

The rest, as they say, is history. New England became the industrial capital of the United States and J.P. goes on to become one of the largest textile manufacturers in the world. During the civil war the Franklin Mill produces uniforms and blankets for the troops. Since those days, the city and the economy has changed but the beauty of the mill has endured.

With new management, the old brick mill complex continues its evolution into a wonderful new business complex. With capital expenditures in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the brick walls, planked floors and massive beamed ceilings were sandblasted and restored. Tiled restrooms were installed and a new lobby was created.

Today the mill is the home of a number of business enterprises, comunity service organizations and continues to be a part of the regions colorful history.
